Shiripuno River, Ñoneno Community

            

 

          

 

                                                   

 

                                                Shiripuno River

   The Lodge is adjacent to the Shiripuno Research Center, the most remote biological station in the Ecuadorian Amazon Basin, whose mission is to establish studies on Natural History and Tropical Ecology. The Center draws students, researchers and international experts who study birds, mammals, reptiles, insects, plants, ecology, evolution, and medicinal plants, as well as the Amazonian culture, the Huaorani people, and environmental issues.  

 

5 DAYS, 4 NIGHTS  

 

FIRST DAY

 

09:00    We travel about 2 ½ hours to the Shiripuno River

11:30    We will have lunch in the restaurant located on the shores of the Shiripuno River where a canoe will be waiting for us to travel to Ñoneno. Approximate trip time is 1 ½ hours

13:00    While in Ñoneno, you will be offered the unique opportunity of experiencing Waorani culture, visiting their dwellings, seeing their handifcrafts, traditional foods, etc.

16:00    We camp on the shores of the Shiripuno, weather permitting.  Our alternative is the village should it rain

19:00    Dinner

20:00    Rest time

 

 

SECOND DAY

 

08:00    Breakfast.  

09:00    We begin a 4 hour walk through the forest in Waorani territory studying the useful plants of this indigenous group and observing any fauna that may come our way.  We will also visit a waterfalls.

13:00    Lunch and rest with our Waorani hosts. 

17:00    After an enjoyable bath, we make camp for the night

19:00    Dinner

20:00    Rest time

 

THIRD DAY

  

07:00    Breakfast

08:00    We return to the community of Ñoneno searching for primates and other animals  

13:00    Lunch and rest

15:00   We pack and begin another adventure travelling downriver deeper into the Waorani reserve

17:00    We make camp

19:00    Caiman observation along the Shiripuno River  

 

FOURTH DAY  

 

06:00    We navigate downriver exploring the riverside    

08:00    Breakfast

09:00    We hike to a claylick    

13:00    Lunch.  

15:00   Piranha fishing.

19:00    Dinner

20:00    Night walk for an hour

22:00    Rest

 

FIFTH DAY

 

06:00    We travel downriver without motor exploring the Shiripuno River before breakfast

08:00    Breakfast

09:00    We pack and travel upstream by boat to the Shiripuno bridge on the Via Cononaco

13:00    Return trip to Coca by road

16:00    Estimated arrival time in Coca for our overnight stay at the San  

                Fermín Hotel.
