First Day. -
We fly from Quito to Coca with an estimated arrival time at 9h30 a.m.
From the airport, we travel to Hotel San Fermin for a brief
discussion of our upcoming trip,
before we travel by private car to the Shiripuno bridge (2 1/2
hour drive, 90 km). Please note that in order to protect the
Waorani, it is now obligatory that we have a brief medical check up
before entering their territory. It is important that all our
guests have proof of vaccinations (e.g. Yellow Fever) before we are
permitted to travel down the Shiripuno to the village of Ñoneno.
Depending on water levels, we should arrive at Ñoneno within about 2
hours. Here our Waorani hosts are more than happy to share
their lives and culture with their new visitors. We set up
camp in this Waorani village located a days boat ride from Yasuni
National Park. Look forward to an interesting evening in
cultural exchange as the Waorani show us their traditional dances
and music.
Second Day. -
After breakfast, we travel with the Waorani to a waterfall and after
a hard climb, you will have an amazing view of the surrounding
forest high above looking over the canopy below. Afer a great lunch,
you may then take a nap, go for a swim or simply take a walk around
the community of Ñoneno. After dinner, we will meet with a few
Waorani elders who will share some of their legends.
Third Day . -
After breakfast, we say good-bye to the community but not before
visiting all their houses and receiving a blowgun demonstration from
a Waorani elder. You may also attempt to try the blowgun.
We travel downriver for approximately 3 hours where we make camp
along the river close to one of the largest ceibo trees in the
region.
In the afternoon, we fish for piranha and after dinner, we head out
to look for caimans. Don't forget your flashlight.
Fourth Day. - We wake up early in the
morning and paddle downriver to bird watch (Macaws,
tanagers, caciques, oropendolas) or hopefully encounter mammals like tapirs, monkeys
and capibara. After our early morning expedition, we return to our camp site for breakfast.
Look forward to yet another amazing walk after breakfast as we hike
another large hill. When we reach the top, you will have an
impressive view of the surrounding forest. Red Howler Monkeys,
Woolly Monkeys and White-bellied Spider Monkeys were seen on
previous walks. After our 4 hour hike, we return for lunch and then
begin our trip upstream. We make camp once again along the
banks of the Shiripuno River.
Fifth Day .-
After breakfast we make the return trip to the Shiripuno bridge and
have lunch. A public bus will take us for the return trip back to
